France - Day 1

As you would expect from an international removals manager and a bloke who likes to plan everything, our move went very well, almost with military precision..

We got up at 6am and finally got to bed at midnight, loading just over 1000ft3 of our belongings in to the removal lorry, in between. During the day Luca stayed with a French friend of Issys who lives up the road, Elliot spent the morning telling the movers everything in his life until he got tired and then joined Luca. By 4.30 we were done, posted the keys through the letterbox and were on a taxi to Heathrow.

Our 8.15pm flight to Paris went smoothly apart from Elliot letting out a high pitched scream in the middle of the flight….which for the nervous flyers can’t have been good. The lady in front turned around and, in French, said “it’s not possible”. To which I lined up a whole barrage of things, in French, to say to her….the trouble is that by the time I had worked out what to say, it was 2 hours later, in the car away from the airport.

Yesterday we sorted out various admin things, including starting the process to register Elliot for Pre-school in our village. Tonight we collect the keys to our new house and tomorrow will meet the removal men at 8am to unload and make sense of all our stuff….including finding my box of English provisions!! Issys mum will look after the kids and her sister and brother-in-law are taking the day off to help out unload.

Issy starts work on 4 May so we have about a week to settle in and get me ready for the most stressful job I will ever do….looking after the boys on my own!!!
